Ditch Google Photos for a more private alternative
What you need: Windows 10 or 11, an Android or iOS device
Time required: 40 minutes
Many of us rely on Google Photos for online storage – particularly those with Android devices. One downside of the service is that Google analyses photos you upload and collects their metadata, including when and where images are taken. If that level of intrusiveness worries you, you should consider switching to US-based Ente Photos, a new privacy-focused photo- storage service that uses end-to-end encryption, meaning only you can view your photos. Ente has paid-for plans starting at £2.49 a month for 50GB of space but here, we’ll show you how to open a free account, which provides 10GB. If you’re happy with Ente and need more storage, you could then consider upgrading.
