Chinese manufacturer GMKtec is now well established in the world of mini PCs. Its NucBox K11 remains our favourite mini machine (£830 from www.snipca. com/54341, see page 32).
The new M5 Ultra is more of a mid-ranger, updating last year’s M5 Plus with a more recent AMD Ryzen 7 processor without making it any less flexible or affordable.
All mini PCs are being hit by the surge in RAM prices, but the M5 Ultra may be less affected as it uses older DDR4 RAM. What’s more, you can buy it without RAM and storage (‘barebones’) for roughly £194 plus import fees from GMKtec’s global store (www.snipca. com/57771), or from Amazon and other retailers, in a choice of RAM and SSD configurations (see link at top of page).
