EARLY five years after they first declared Neffective bankruptcy and following government bailouts of more than £300m, the execs at Croydon council are up for a gong.
To the derision of sarf London residents, who have been hit with 27 percent council tax increases since 2023, Croydon has been shortlisted for “most improved council” at the Local Government Chronicle Awards, held at the swanky Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, where tables for 10 cost more than £2,000 (without drinks).
