SOFT SCOOPS
AS NEWSPAPERS are increasingly starved of resources and manpower, their reliance on oven-ready research done by outside bodies is increasing – and one that has been enjoying great success is the blandly titled and low-profile UK Media Research Centre (UKMRC).
Set up in August 2024, it sources stories that relate to “extremism” activities and stands them up before giving its findings to media outlets. But unlike usual suspects such as the Taxpayers’ Alliance and the wealth advisory firms claiming an exodus of billionaires under Labour, UKMRC is never cited by the publications that publish its work.
