BET LYNCHING
“The Missing Millions,” thundered large text above a Racing Post feature on 11 January, which reported on the scandal involving a betting syndicate run by Rory Campbell, son to former Labour comms director Alastair.
The feature, written by reporter Chris Cook – in a pleasing professional parallel, son of the late Labour foreign secretary Robin Cook – explained: “Dozens of gambling professionals are facing the prospect of massive collective losses after the failure of a syndicate focused on football betting, the outcome of a sorry tale of success gone sour, an unexplained change in fortunes and severed friendships.”
