BRUSSELS SPROUTS
PLENTY of ink has been spilt detailing the mistreatment of EU nationals entitled to continue to live and work in the UK since Brexit. But life is no bed of roses either for the 1m UK nationals and their family members who still live across the EU, according to the EU’s statistics agency, Eurostat.
A total of 4,155 UK citizens were ordered to leave EU countries in 2021-24. Sweden and the Netherlands accounted for around 60 percent of that total. The most hostile environment for a Brit abroad appears to be Sweden, where the authorities estimated in mid-2024 there were around 13,000 resident UK nationals.
