The Mail titles were full of scorn for Rachel Reeves over her trip to China earlier this month.
On 10 January, a Daily Mail editorial called Reeves’s visit a “dereliction of duty” that was particularly gross thanks to China’s “appalling human rights record” and its recent history of alleged spying in the UK. Two days later, the Mail on Sunday ran a column by ex-home secretary Priti Patel, who steamed: “Kowtowing to the Chinese amid this turmoil reeks of utter desperation.”
