GNOME CINEMA
AT THE start of
Emilia Pérez

The Sopranos

Mrs Doubtfire

Joker Folie à Deux
and

, the credits inform us that it’s a presentation of, among many others, Why Not productions. Which is appropriate for a film whose plot seems to have been put together as a dare.
Rita (Zoe Saldana) is a Mexican lawyer who, frustrated at helping rich clients get away with murder, accepts an offer from brutal cartel boss Manitas to help him fake his death and have a sex change. Four years later, Manitas re-emerges as Emilia Pérez (Karla Sofía Gascón) and gets Rita to arrange for Manitas’ ex-wife (Selena Gomez) and children’s return to Mexico to live with their aunt Emilia.
