Cover story
Sir,
I see very little satire in the front cover of the current Eye (Eye 1640). It is not a “grooming” scandal but a scandal of the almost industrialised rape of vulnerable girls. I suggest you read the court transcripts of some of the judgments and see if you can find any humour there (you won’t).
The type of detailed investigative journalism for which the Eye is famous would not have gone amiss where this national atrocity is concerned. By aping Starmer’s labelling as “far right” anyone who is disgusted by this, you have only reinforced a widespread impression that London doesn’t care about people in poorer areas. Just because you disagree with Musk and Farage doesn’t make them wrong.
My impression of people who write you letters similar to this has always been that they are thin-skinned and over-sensitive. My subscription will not be cancelled, but I look forward to reading sober coverage of what is a national disgrace, rather than such flippant and ill-judged content as this cover.

…I was appalled to see the cover of your latest edition, showing Musk and Farage and headed “Grooming Scandal Latest”. Ironically, Farage offered an emotive speech asking for an inquiry at PMQs this week.
However, my concern is over how you can make a joke over a subject about an issue that involves the multiple rape and exploitation of young white girls by predominantly Pakistani males?
DR TIM R. GARNETT.
...Credit where credit is due: 72 hours ago, I sent you an email complaining about what I perceive is the ideological bias and poor quality of the alleged humour of your first front cover “joke” of 2025 (Eye 1640). Now, especially after having read MD’s latest update (part 12) on the Lucy Letby case, I am once again reminded why I renew my subscription to your magazine each year, despite being annoyed by parts of it on a fortnightly basis.
The obvious and to me sometimes unjust left-wing bias of Private Eye is more than compensated for by the persistently crusading and exposé journalism you wage against injustices and wrongdoings of all shapes and sizes.
