GOLDEN FLEECING?
THE Golden Globes won glowing reviews when kicking off the awards season earlier this month, with a funny host and stars aplenty. But behind the red-carpet glamour lies a simmering legal row and a history of scandal.
An LA Times investigation in 2021 revealed that voters at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which runs the awards, had been accepting freebies from film studios while PR firms had been lobbying for votes. The scandal, along with an embarrassing lack of diversity in the HFPA, led to such a crisis that no network would screen the awards in 2022.
