LABOUR SPIN CYCLE
THE new year will be a good one for several senior Labour figures who have recently swapped positions in the party apparatus for lucrative jobs with lobbying firms.
On 9 January, Teneo – which has lobbied for Thames Water, McDonald’s and Metro Bank – announced that Deborah Mattinson, Keir Starmer’s former head of strategy who was nominated for the House of Lords last month, has joined its team as a senior adviser. The Lords’ code of conduct clearly states that “members may not act as parliamentary consultants”, which includes advising organisations “how they may lobby”.
