Lochaber Cinema Group (LCG) has finally decided to call it a day, with a lack of funding being blamed. The group’s Facebook page carried a statement this month from chairperson Marie MacPherson, saying the reason the page had remained unpublished for the past two months was due to there being no interest in it.
She said it was only republished to carry the news that, due to lack of cash and not being able to afford overheads, as well as being unsuccessful in funding bids, it had been decided to wind the group up next month. The group had hoped to buy and convert a disused industrial unit in Fort William into a cinema, but was unsuccessful in obtaining funding.
‘It’s with great regret that we have decided this but we cannot get funding for a rural cinema project or even fundraise locally as we have tried,’ said Ms MacPherson. ‘LCG has enjoyed the journey we have been on since forming in February 2016. Every bit of it has been learning and have been grateful for the experience.
