Councillors have approved plans for a new booklet to show how Argyll and Bute commemorated those who lost their lives in the First World War. How Argyll and Bute Remembered is a commemorative publication which illustrates several events staged in the area from 2014 to 2018, marking the centenary of the war. The booklet is now set to be made available to the public shortly.
Councillors will also be recommended to record their appreciation for the First World War Commemoration Steering Group, which was established in 2013. A report by executive director of customer services Douglas Hendry said: ‘The Argyll and Bute Remembered booklet seeks to capture a wide range of the events held within Argyll and Bute during the centenary period.
‘It acknowledges the commitment, dedication and sheer hard work undertaken by communities and individuals to ensure the centenary was marked in a spirit of respectful remembrance and in a way that would encourage young people to take an interest with the principal aim of understanding the war’s place in our history and its effect on our communities.
