Aspiring young chefs from across Lochaber descended on Ardnamurchan High School last Tuesday to demonstrate their cookery skills and bid for the prestigious title of Lochaber Rotary Club’s Young Chef of the Year, writes Mark Entwistle.
The annual competition, which is open to students in full-time education between ages 11 and 17 on August 31, 2018, in all four high schools in Lochaber, was won by 14-year-old Connie MacLennan from Lochaber High School.
S3 pupil Connie, from Claggan in Fort William, wowed the judges with her Scottish-themed starter of quennels of smoked mackerel pate on chicory stalks, a main course of Ben Nevis chicken, and a Sicilian-inspired dessert of lemon curd cream.
