It is never pleasant to report proposed job losses as a result of financial requirements for savings.
So it should come as little surprise that widespread concern has been voiced at the possibility of people losing their employment at Argyll and Bute Council as it strives to find savings from its budget.
As many as 59 people across the local authority area are thought to be at risk of losing their jobs, a disproportionate number of them – 17 from a total of 31, more than 50 per cent – from the youth and adult learning services, which is part of the education department.
