Congestion on the A82 in Fort William has proved to be a persistent, and frustrating, problem for drivers.
We welcomed the development back in June which saw the northbound approach to the Nevis Bridge roundabout on the North Road was widened to two lanes in an attempt to alleviate the ‘bottleneck’ which ground the town to a halt last summer during the peak tourist season. However, now the A82 Partnership has been told that the roadworks have ‘not achieved the promised improvements’, meaning the town could be set for another summer of traffic chaos. That is not good enough.
Another summer of clogged roads will increase frustration and could turn out to be damaging to the local economy as word of mouth spreads among visitors that the Fort William area is a road nightmare.
