Bristol-based Tom Abbott plans to spend a year travelling around the Hebrides, filming and writing as he goes, camping out and revisiting some of the scenes of treasured memories.
Tom’s father – John – instilled a love of the Hebridean islands in his whole family from their early lives. John was a teacher and loved the islands so much that he set up the Schools Hebridean Society in the early 1960s, to give groups of secondary children from around the country the chance to experience the wonder of the islands, camping, climbing and exploring the countryside.
Sadly, John was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease last year. Tom – a published author, who first went to the islands at the age of eight on holiday with his family – is to start his year-long visit in the spring, and is looking for sponsors or corporate donors to help him in the purchase of the equipment that he will need for his trek.
